Elizabeth Jane was born on September 29th, 1842 in , Hawkins, Tennessee. Elizabeth Jane's father was John H. Pearson and her mother was Minerva Greene. Her paternal grandparents were Lawrence Pearson and Elizabeth Devault; her maternal grandparents were William Greene and Ruth Slaton. She had four brothers and three sisters, named William Eldridge, George Anderson, Nicholas, James M., Rowena, Liza Ruth and Mary Catherine. She was the oldest of the eight children.-
