Marmaduke's father was Thomas Norfleet III and his mother was Ruth.  His paternal grandfather was Thomas Jr. Norfleet. He had a brother and five sisters, named Thomas, Sarah, Susannah, Elizabeth, Mary and Pheraby. He had a half-brother named Lemuel.  He died in 1762 in , Halifax, NC.
