Minerva Jane was born in 1854 in , Hawkins, Tennessee. Minerva Jane's father was Richard Hudson Morrison and her mother was Martha. Her paternal grandparents were James Morrison and Sarah. She had three brothers and fifteen sisters, named William F., Jesse J., George, Elizabeth, Sarah, Mary Ann, Ann, Emmeline, Jane, Rosannah Or Rose, Hannah, Mary E., Fannie, Alice, Nola, Pattie, Lillie and Juda. She was the fourth oldest of the nineteen children.
