Henry was born in 1852 in , , Tennessee. Henry's father was Yancy Morelock and his mother was Anna Cooper. His paternal grandparents were Samuel Morelock and Elizabeth Stacy; his maternal grandparents were Cooper and Rachel. He had seven brothers and three sisters, named Stacy, Nelson, Jonathan, Rogan, Baker, Isaac M., Reuben, Katherine, Judah and Sarah J. B.. He was the fourth oldest of the eleven children. He had four half-brothers and a half-sister, named Henry James, William, George, Samuel and Priscilla.-
