Her paternal grandparents were Joel Meadors and Amy Cowden; her maternal grandparents were William Jwidwell and Gatsey Heath. She had two brothers and six sisters, named Asa A., William Clayton, Emma C., Nettie C., Mary L. C., Eva I., Alice Jane and Sarah Anna. She was the fourth oldest of the nine children.-
