Martha Jane was born on May 21st, 1876 in , Hawkins, Tennessee. Martha Jane's father was Malin A. Manis and her mother was Sarah Elizabeth Hilton. Her paternal grandparents were Sterling Manis and Rachel Manis; her maternal grandparents were James Hilton and Mary Or Polly. She had two brothers and three sisters, named John, Jesse B., Amanda E., Luna E. and Louverna. She was the third oldest of the six children. She died at the age of 68 on September 12th, 1944.-
