Jacob was born in 1767 in Shenandoah County, Virginia.  Jacob's father was George Lonas and his mother was Barbara Helsley.  His maternal grandparents were Jacob Helsley and Maria Margaret Kemmerer. He had six brothers and two sisters, named Jacob, George, Adam, John, Leonard, Henry, Margaret and Barbara.  He died at the age of 92 in 1859.
