Her maternal grandparents were Samuel Skelton and Susannah Casey. She had two brothers and six sisters, named John M., Elijah I., Julia Ann, Susan, Mary Frances, Lannie Isabel, Sarah Elizabeth and Rebecca Jane. She was the fourth oldest of the nine children.-
