His paternal grandparents were Leathers and Elizabeth; his maternal grandparents were Richard Beeson and Hannah Copeland. He had six brothers and three sisters, named Minatres, John W., Richard, Jonathan, Robert, James C., Margaret, Sarah and Caroline. He was the second youngest of the ten children.-
