Anna was born in 1787 in , , Of N. C.. Anna's father was William Lawson and her mother was Sarah Hinton. Her paternal grandparents were Bartholomew Lawson and Susannah Simkins; her maternal grandparents were William Robert Hinton and Mary Patton. She had ten brothers and a sister, named Thomas, William, Isham, Elijah, Stephen, Elisha, Preston, George Washington, Hinton, Wiley and Mary Or Polly. She was the fifth oldest of the twelve children.-
