His paternal grandparents were Henry Mark Larkins and Jane Newton; his maternal grandparents were William Armstrong and Mary Caldwell. He had three brothers and two sisters, named William, David, Henry, Elizabeth and Jennie. He was the third oldest of the six children. He died in , , Texas.-
