James' father was Martin Kite and his mother was Catharine Kiser. His paternal grandparents were William Kite and Catharine Smith; his maternal grandparents were Michael Kiser and Anna Maria Lingel. He had four brothers and two sisters, named George, Jacob C., John, David, Elizabeth and Mary.-
