Almeda Jane was born on March 4th, 1857 in , Shelby, Illinois. Almeda Jane's father was Louis L. Hughes and her mother was Christiana Rudy. Her maternal grandparents were William A. Rudy and Sarah Engelheart. She had four sisters named Mary Emma, Hester Ann, Elnora and Lura Mae. She was the oldest of the five children. She died at the age of 72 on May 1st, 1929 in Kingman, Kingman, Kansas. She was buried in Hoosier Cemetary, Kingman, Kingman, Kansas.-
