John Wiley was born on June 17th, 1871 in , , Tennessee. John Wiley's father was Jarvis Wiley Gardner and his mother was Mary Ann Weems. His paternal grandparents were James Gardner and Anna Myers; his maternal grandparents were Abraham Weems and Elizabeth Davis. He had four brothers and four sisters, named Emerson Daily, William H., Rufus Kelly, Gardner, Mary Ann, Sarah Jane, Rebecca A. and Lora Elizabeth. He was the second oldest of the nine children. He died at the age of 94 on April 23rd, 1966.-
