Nancy Jane's father was Thomas Fain and her mother was Rachel Anderson. Her paternal grandparents were John Reuben Fain and Eleanor Crawford; her maternal grandparents were John Anderson and Rachel Roberts. She had five brothers and four sisters, named John, Samuel Anderson, Hugh, Thomas George, William Henry, Amelia Elizabeth, Eleanor Rachel, Hannah Anderson and Isabella Ruth.-
