Elkanah D. was born on August 31st, 1824 in Sullivan County, Tennessee. Elkanah D.'s father was John Droke and his mother was Isabel Wolford. His paternal grandparents were Jacob Droke and Catherine Faust. He had seven brothers and two sisters, named William David, Jacob M., George Washington, James, Samuel, Isaac Dunn, Andrew Jackson, Anna and Catherine. He was the second oldest of the ten children.-
