Christopher was born about 1470 in Pleasley, Derby, England. Christopher's father was Ralph Doty and his mother was Christine Tyas. His paternal grandparents were James Doty and Thomasine Leigh; his maternal grandfather was John Tyas. He had four brothers named James, John, Thomas and William.
