Joseph was born in 1856 in Wayne County, Illinois. Joseph's father was Vincent Crask and his mother was Susan. His paternal grandparents were Joseph Wilson Crask and Nancy. He had a brother and a sister, named Diadasia and Theodosia. He was the oldest of the three children.-
