Louisa's father was Jacob Cox and her mother was Elizabeth Webb. Her paternal grandparents were Edward Cox and Sarah Meredith. She had nine brothers and two sisters, named Gale H., Lilbern, William, Abraham, Edward, Elbert, Elkanin, George, John, Mary and Harriett.
