Nancy was born in 1879 in , Hawkins, Tennessee. Nancy's father was Joseph Cobb and her mother was Susan Pilant. Her maternal grandparents were John Pilant and Mahala. She had four brothers and four sisters, named Andrew, William G., James, John, Eliza D., Martha, Mary and Serena. She was the youngest of the nine children.-
