G. K. was born in 1832 in Alabama. G. K.'s father was Claiborne Cato and his mother was Elizabeth. His paternal grandparents were William Cato and Sarah Massey. He had two brothers and three sisters, named W. M., T. A., M. C., S. F. and T. C.. He was the second oldest of the six children.-
