Laura E. was born in 1870 in , , Virginia. Laura E.'s father was Ellis C. Carter and her mother was Nancy Rose Bohannan. Her paternal grandparents were Ephraim Carter and Elizabeth Anderson; her maternal grandparents were Simon Bohannan and Edith Greer. She had three brothers and four sisters, named James Thomas, Simon, Ephraim L., Margaret A., Dora K., Mary Belle and Lucy Jane. She was the third oldest of the eight children. She died at the age of 56 in 1926.-
