William was born in 1831 in Hawkins Co., TN. William's father was Harrison M. Bussell and his mother was Nancy Charles. His maternal grandparents were James Charles and Dorcas Miller. He had four brothers and four sisters, named James, Harrison M., Joshua, Benjamin Franklin, Tabitha, Margaret, Minerva D. and Sally F.. He was the third oldest of the nine children.-
