Joseph was born on October 20th, 1760 in , Rowan, North Carolina. Joseph's father was Joseph Brown and his mother was Mary Porter. His paternal grandparents were William Brown and Margaret Fleming; his maternal grandparents were Hugh Porter and Violet Mackey. He was an only child. He died at the age of 40 on October 28th, 1800 in , Franklin, Georgia.-
