Doctor Houston was born on November 12th, 1860 in , Hawkins, Tennessee. Doctor Houston's father was Stokley Deaderick Brooks and his mother was Elizabeth Jane Lipe. His paternal grandparents were Anthony Brooks and Hannah Price; his maternal grandparents were William Lipe and Frances. He had six brothers and four sisters, named William Anthony, Robert F., James H., Joseph Dougherty, Henry Clay, Stokley Deaderick, Annis, Mary E., Sarah Laura and Amanda. He was the third youngest of the eleven children.-
