Leander was born in 1807 in Virginia. Leander's father was Abraham Blessing and his mother was Catherine. His paternal grandparents were Jacob Blessing and Elizabeth Ritschart. He had four brothers and a sister, named John R., Abraham, Gideon, Blessing and Blessing.-
