Sarai M. was born in 1884 in , Hawkins, Tennessee. Sarai M.'s father was Jonathan Berry and her mother was Hannah Berry. Her paternal grandparents were Alfred Berry and Susan Long; her maternal grandfather was Thomas Berry. She had three brothers and a sister, named Thomas A., Frank, Fred and Mollie E.. She was the oldest of the five children. She had two half-sisters named Josephine Cornelia and Hester. She died at the age of 86 in 1970.-
