John C. was born in 1875 in , Hawkins, Tennessee. John C.'s father was Harden Monroe Arnott and his mother was Matilda. His paternal grandparents were Jacob Arnott and Emeline Grigsby. He had two brothers and four sisters, named William M., Charles M., Rowena, Charlotte, Cordelia and Maud. He was the third youngest of the seven children.-
