Solomon Zachariah was born in 1863 in Sullivan, Tennessee. Solomon Zachariah's father was Frederick Douglas Akard and his mother was Mary Osborne. His paternal grandparents were Frederick Douglas Akard and Margaret Elizabeth Click; his maternal grandparents were Solomon Osborne and Henrietta Livingston. He had four brothers and four sisters, named James, Eldridge, William, Charles, Nancy, Margaret, Henrietta and Mary Elizabeth Adeline.
