His maternal grandparents were Nelson Carter DAWSON and Lucy GOODE. He had four brothers and six sisters, named John Nelson, Samuel Dabney , Thomas Alexander, Burwell Goode, Nancy Timpson , Lucy Goode , Elizabeth Dawson , Mary B. , Martha Matilda and Octavia Sophronia . He was the second youngest of the eleven children.-
