Pinckney was born in 1821 in IN. Pinckney 's father was Jeremiah POE and his mother was Hannah DOAN. His paternal grandparents were William POE and Elizabeth BRAY; his maternal grandparents were Jacob DOAN and Hannah STUPP. He had seven brothers and two sisters, named Elisha, William , Jacob , Johnathan, Jesse , Basil , Ira , Susan and Hannah. He was the third youngest of the ten children.-
