Ransom was born in 1830 in GA. Ransom's father was William Bennett HICKS and his mother was Elizabeth K. DOUGLAS. His paternal grandparents were William Foster . HICKS and Betsy CRUTCHFIELD. He had five brothers and three sisters, named John McFarlin, Francis , William Perry , George, Isom G. , Susan , Mary Edna and Louize Apsy . He was the oldest of the nine children.-
