Willhelm was born in Philadelphia, Philadelphia Co., PA. Willhelm 's father was Johan Leonard Cart (Karg) and his mother was Margaretha Schmidpeter. His paternal grandparents were Leonhardt Karg and Magdalene Mayer; his maternal grandparents were Michael Schmidtpeter and Katharina Billing. He had a sister named Catharina Margretha (Karg). He died in 1830 in Greenbriar Co., VA.General Notes

Wilhelm (William) Cart Pension number S39281
He enlisted in Northampton County, Pennsylvania.
Applied November 24, 1818 in Greenbrier County, Virginia, at age 69.
In 1820 wife Catherine died.
He enlisted in 1775, served as a Private. He was in the Battle of Brandywine.
At age 68 or 69, 1824, lived in Gallia County, Ohio, with daughter Rachel, wife of William Johnson, and their two children, Hannah, age 6, and Catherine, age 5.
The reference also referred to a granddaughter, Nancy Cart, age 12 (in 1824).
Her parents not named in the book, but they are Conrad (Konradt) and Mary Polly (Wentz) Vance Cart.
The soldier’s (Wilhelm) sons, George and William are mentioned. In 1828 soldier moved back to Virginia to be with his children. Also said there may have been another daughter of the soldier named Mary Vance. (Think this was a daughter-in-law married to his son, Conrad (Konradt) Cart.)
There was also a reference in another book of Wilem Carte---Pvt. In Albert Rawlings Regiment of NY-Mil (Militia or Military), may be the same one, but do know the Wilhelm Cart is your great, great, great, great grandfather that had the above information about his pension from the Revolutionary War.
The Family Tree information had his birthday as 1756, but the pension data had his age as 69 in 1818, and that would make his birth in 1749.
In the Civil War Confederate Reference Book, there is a James A. Cart, Virginia-22nd Infantry-Co A., and a John Cart, Virginia-17th Calvary-CO I.
Also Found a John Cart from West Virginia on Union Side. There are John’s and James in the tree but don’t have info to connect them.
The spelling started as Karg, then some used Cart and others Carte in later years.
