Mary was born in 1755 in Frederick, Co., VA. Mary 's father was William BURNS and her mother was Johanna VANMETER . Her paternal grandparents were John BURNS and Agnes Ann CHISHOLM; her maternal grandparents were Johannis J. Van Meter and Rebecca Powelson. She had four brothers and four sisters, and also a sibling of unknown gender, named William , John, George, Hannah, Elizabeth , Margaret, Isabella, Rebecca and Robert. She was the third oldest of the ten children. She had a half-brother named Peter.-
