Rodrigo Diaz "El Cid Campeador" was born in 1043 in Bivar, Castile.1 Rodrigo Diaz "El Cid Campeador"'s father was Diego Lainez de Vivar and his mother was Teresa Nunez de Amaya. His paternal grandfather was Lain Nunez; his maternal grandfather was Nuno Alfonsez de Amaya. He was an only child. He died at the age of 56 on July 10th, 1099 in Valencia, Spain. He was buried in Spanish hero "El Cid.".1 1 General Notes

Rodrigo Di az (de Vivar), male line descendant (it would seem) of Judges
Lain Calvo and Nuno Rasura, tracing back to a 9th century Nuno
Belchidez. In this descent, he was linked (in the male line) with to
some of the early (non-hereditary) C ounts of Castile, the Banu Gomez, the
Banu Morel, and the Flainez/de Cifuente s families, and (in the female
line) to the later (hereditary) Counts of Cast ile. He married Jimena
Diaz, a descendant of the 10th century count Piniolo Gundemariz.
