Payne was born about 1123 in Kempsford, Gloucester.1 Payne's father was Patrick de Chaworth and his mother was Wilburga de Mundabliel. His paternal grandparents were Sir Patrick of Kidwelly de Chaworth and Maud de Hesdin; his maternal grandfather was Payne de Mundabliel. He was an only child. He died in 1170.1 General Notes
