George T. Hunsucker was born c. 1803-1804 in North Carolina, and ap pears
in Moore Co. on the 1850 census with wife
Martha (Wood). He was presum ably a son of George Hunsucker Sr., but must
be distinguished from his cousin , George M.
Hunsucker, born c. 1801-1802, whom I believe to have been a son of
William Hunsucker.
The loss of Moore Co., records prevents us from proving this
definitively, and no deeds of this branch of the family were later
re-r ecorded after the fire. Our usual recourse in Moore County research
is the pa rtially surviving courts Minutes, but
unfortunately it looks as though George Sr., died in a period (1850-1851)
for which the Minutes are also lost. What w e have is
circumstantial proof of our George’s parentage is a record noted in the
Court Minutes of April 1844: (F.p.28):
Deeds…George Hunsucker to George Hunsucker, Jr. proven by the Oath of
Cornelius H. Dowd. Two other deeds were
proven at the same time: (F:28): Deeds…George Hunsucker to Jesse Sanders
pro ven by the Oath of J D Cole… (F:29) A
deed of conveyance from Archibald M R So well to George Hunsucker was
offered in open Court, and it was proved by the
oaths of Cornelius H. Dowd and Alexander Kelly that Joseph G. Moore and
his son Cornelius Moore are not inhabitants of
this state…(but) said deed is the p roper handwriting of the said…Sowell.
