Parmelia was born in 1819 in Virginia.1   Parmelia's father was Charles Harris and her mother was Mary Elizabeth ?.  Her paternal grandparents were Benjamin Harris and Lucy Conway. She had six brothers and a sister, named Woodson Terrell, Robert H, Wesley, William, Leroy, Edward and Lucetia Elizabeth.  She was the second oldest of the eight children.
