James was born on April 23rd, 1791 in Franklin County, Pennsylvania.1   James' father was James Buchanan and his mother was Elizabeth Speer.  His paternal grandparents were John Buchanan and Jane Russell. He had four brothers and six sisters, named John, Edward Young, William, George Washington, Mary, Jane, Maria, Elizabeth E, Harriett E and Sarah.  He died at the age of 77 on June 1st, 1868 in Pennsylvania.1
