Alexander was born in 1828.1   Alexander's father was Alexander Buchanan and his mother was Jane Clark.  His paternal grandfather was John Buchanan. He had four brothers and two sisters, named William, Charles, Robert, John, Ann and Elizabeth.  He died at the age of 87 on June 6th, 1915.1
