Jr, 85, of Powderly died at 2:50 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 21, 1996, at Che rry
Street Annex. Services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 23, in Fry
and Gibbs Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Mike Jones officiating.
Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends
from 7-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Mr. Beard was born Oct. 14,
1910, in Paris, a s on of William Love and Eudora Bradley Beard. He was a
member of the Powderly Baptist Church. He was a traveling salesman for 49
years, working for Pete Hu mphries Grocery, White Swan Grocery and Lily
Sales. He served on the board of Powderly and North
Lamar schools for 26 years until retiring in 1980. He marr ied Martha
Pearl Phillips April 9, 1934, in Antlers, OK. She preceded him dea th on
Feb. 28, 1996. Surviving are four children, Jane Whitesides of Memphis,
TN, Peggy Stinson, Billy Beard and Susan Snodgrass, all of Paris; a
daught er-in-law, Gradie Marie Beard; two sons-in-law, Hurshell Stinson
and Chris L. Snodgrass; two brothers, Ralph Beard and Bob Beard, both of
Paris; two siste rs, Marguerite Beard and Virginia Watson, both of Paris;
11 grandchildren, Cy nthia Byrd, Nancy Clark, Pam Golding, Misti Clark,
Jamie Galyon, Tammy Nichol s, Eric Snodgrass, Shelley Lackie, Wendy
Stinson, Bradley Snodgrass and Patri ck Snodgrass; and 17
great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife, he was pre ceded in death by
a brother, Tom Beard, and a sister, Mable Haley. Pallbearer s will be
Steve Byrd, Kerry Clark, Mike Golding, Jeff Lackie, Scott Galyon, L at
Nichols and Mike Clark.'
