Sir William de Cantelou III was born about 1216 in Calne, Wiltshire or Aston Cantlow, Warwickshire.1 Sir William de Cantelou III's father was William de Cantelou II Lord Tre-Cantlow and his mother was Milicent de Gournay. His paternal grandparents were William King's High Steward de Cantelou and Masceline de Braci; his maternal grandparents were Hugh V de Gournay and Juliana de Dammartin. He was an only child. Eva de Braiose, d. July 1255, daughter of William de Braose and Eva
Marshall. William in turn w as the son of William de Cantelou (Cauntelo),
of Calne, Wilts, Lord of Tre-Ca ntlow (Cantleston), d. 22 Feb 1250/1 at
Calne, m. to Melicent de Gurnay, d. 1 260, daughter of Hugh V de Gournay
and Juliana de Dammartin.
