19 Apr 1894 - Born in Lodi. Lived on his family's ranch in Lodi,
California
- Moved with his family to "Five Mile House" Watsonville,
California.
- Quit school in 6th grade. They had to walk 5 miles each way
to attend.
- Family disagreements caused him to be asked to leave the house
at age 14.
1908 - He moved into a tent in the backyard, where he remained.
He quarrled with his younger sister,"Babe", who never spoke
to him again, although they lived on the same street for
30 years.
- Ran a wholesale produce business out of his family's backyard.
He acted as a middle-man, picking up produce and eggs from
farms in northern Santa Cruz County and the Watsonville area,
processing them, and then selling them in Monterey County.

1926 - Began building a house in Freedom, Santa Cruz County,
California
WWII - Was exempt from service due to his age and being
a veteran. He was also considered to be doing a vital
job (food distribution), so he suffered no gasoline shortage.
