REFERENCE: 5 Botts
Mr. Alexander L. Botts, No. 747 Va Cousins, a lawyer, councellor of
State, etc., removed to New York in 1834, where he became a contractor
and a partner of the Stevens Brothers, of Hoboken, in their railroad and
other commercial enterprises. He owned the Hoboken Race Course.
During a brief period of authority as acting Governor of Virginia he
freed all persons imprisoned for debt in the Richmond Penitentiary.
Buried in the Congressional Cemetery near his dear friend, John C.
Calhoun.
