Narrative
Alias:<ALIA> Polly /Cabell/
Sixteen at the time of her marriage on June 28, 1785 to John C.
Breckenridge who for some unknown reason changed the spelling of the
family name to Breckinridge. Later known as Grandma Black Cap after the
death of her husband for the black mourning cap she aways wore. After
fifty-two years of widowhood, Grandma Black Cap died at the home of her
son William, in Louisville, Kentucky on March 26, 1858, and her grandson,
Vice-President John Cabell Breckinridge came home and was out of
Washington City for a month.
