Deputy at the General Court from Watertown (1636 - 1637). Settled at
Edgartown, Martha's Vineyard, Massachussetts in 1646. Was at one time an
Indian teacher, and became the Governor of Martha's Vineyard, which post
he held from 1647 to 1681.
