- Built "Kenmore" at Fredericksburg, Virginia
1760-70 - Elected to serve as Burgess to Spotsylvania County,Virginia
1761 - Built and drained the Dismal Swamp with his partner,
George Washington. Formed the Dismal Swamp Company.
1 June 1774 - Adopted the Citizens Resolution to defend Boston against
"Hostile Invasion".
- Was a member of the Spotsylvania County Committee of
Correspondence
9 May 1775 - Was chairman of the Revolutionary Committee of Spotsylvania
County. Adopted a resolution thanking Patrick Henry for his
aid in the "gunpowder affair".
- Served as vestryman at St. George's Church
- Was excluded from military duty due to poor health
- Was appointed Chief Commissioner of the Fredericksburg
Small Arms Factory
1776 - Began providing weatpons for the patriots
- Donated 7000 British Pounds Sterling to finance the weapons
factory, leaving himself a pauper.
1781 - Resigned from the weapons factory due to poor health
1 Jan 1782 - Died in Fredericksburg, Virginia
