Francis was born in VA.1 Francis' father was Francis Thornton and his mother was Alice Savage. His paternal grandparents were William Thornton and Elizabeth Rowland; his maternal grandfather was Anthony Savage. He had three brothers and four sisters, named William, Rowland, Anthony, Margaret, Sarah\Alice?, Anne and Elizabeth. He died on May 21st, 1738 in VA.1 General Notes
