George was born on September 26th, 1777.  George's father was Gabriel Richards and his mother was Nancy Payne.  His paternal grandparents were Unk Richards and Elizabeth Ann Wilson. He had three brothers and four sisters, named William, Richard, Gabriel, Mildred, Mary Payne, Asa and Rhoda.  He was the second oldest of the eight children.
