August Knippa 
August was born on March 23rd, 1862 in Serbin, Lee County, Texas.1 August's father was Johann Knippa and his mother was Christiane Schneider. He had a brother and four sisters, named Carl Wilhelm, Unnamed Daughter, Magdalena, Christiana Theresia and (Wilhelmina) Ernestine. He was the second youngest of the six children. August Knippa was the 7th child, 3rd son of Johann Knippa, a farmer at
Serbin (his second marriage) and Christiane, nee Schneider, from
Spreewitz in Prussia (her first marriage).
Witnesses to his baptism were:
1. Johann Schneider, a farmer at Serbin.
2. Matthes Prellop, a farmer at Serbin.
3. Matthes Wukasch, a farmer at Serbin.
4. Maria, wife of Andreas Hattass, a farmer at Serbin.
5. Maria, wife of Christian Zoch, a farmer at Serbin.
